School for the Performing Arts – Brooklyn, New York

Design 402, Advanced Design - Ecstatic Architecture (Critic: Fred Biele) - Spring 2004

This project explores the theme of Ecstatic Architecture through the design of a School for the Performing Arts in Brooklyn, New York. Sited on a prominent corner in a culturally rich neighborhood, the design repurposes metal shipping containers, stacking them into a dramatic, mounding massing that creates a soaring, cathedral-like presence. The central atrium serves as a gathering space for group performances, while individual containers house classrooms, practice rooms, and faculty offices. The result is a bold architectural statement that celebrates performance, community, and adaptive reuse.
